 Michigan where the State flower is the apple blossom certainly enjoys its apples with over 170 orchards listed, it has also seen a tremendous increase in the number of vineyards and excellent wine production. In fact a number of the 33 Michigan "cideries" were first wineries who also now produce outstanding apple ciders and/or apple wines.

Almar Orchard  and J. K.s Scrumpy- is well-known for its dedication to "quality over quantity." Throughout the grand history of our orchard very few things have actually changed. The pride in a job well done and the care that it takes to produce a top notch product is - and always has been - what makes Almar Ciders one-of-a-kind. Our cider is not only natural, it is truly organic. It always has been. It's simply a fact of what we do - and how we do it. We use no insecticides in the farm orchards. Rather, I do what my grandfather did. I have a large flock of guinea fowl that wander about and eat the bugs. Fallen apples that have hit the ground are always a food source for pests, so I let my Berkshire pigs wander the orchard and eat the fallen apples. In a fast-paced, instant gratification society all this may seem a little old fashioned, or not "cost-effective." But, we have a cider that is not like any other, and the idea of playing around with what makes that happen... well, it just ain't part of the plan.

   THE CIDERS: 

Orchard Gate Gold- is a unique Artisan Michigan Farmhouse Cider, somewhere between English Scrumpy and a Normandy Cidre. The bottom line is that it could not be made anyplace else. It is reliant on the soil and the climate. Open a bottle and decide for yourself! After the harvest, we press our organic apples and allow them to slowly ferment for up to six months. We then carefully hand-fill and label each bottle and let it age for several weeks to properly condition. There are only two ingredients in our Orchard Gate Gold: Juice and Yeast . No artificial flavors or colours and - of course - no sulfite nor preservatives of any kind.  J.K.'s Northern Neighbor Saskatoon Cuvee- This delightful cider is made from Michigan apples and a unique Canadian prairie apple, the Saskatoon. This natural cider has been carefully fermented at Almar Orchards using our traditional methods. 
J.K.'S Cuvee Winterruption- Farmhouse Hard Cider To warm ourselves in the cold norther solstice we enjoy our winter cider. Lightly spiced with ethically traded cinnamon, vanilla and a wee drop of syrup from old Maple trees on the farm.

Zombie Killer Cherry Cyser- Apple cider with honey and tart cherry juice. In the Spring of 2011, we released an experimental new mead that would change history. Little did we know, that the concoction would have a devastating effect on the zombie population that has been plaguing the Earth. When we released this mead to the general public, the lines were out the door. When we ran out, a general panic set in. For the good of mankind, we are re-releasing this antidote to the public on November 4th and 5th at the meadery.
Backwoods Cyser- A cyser (pronounced: Size-er) is the name for a mead that is made with apple cider. We used fresh pressed, unfiltered Michigan apple cider and fermented it with local wildflower honey. We then aged this mead in 12 year old bourbon barrels for 1 1/2 years. The mead is the back sweetened with local star thistle and buckwheat honey.  Barrel Aged Dry Cyser- A dry mead made with apple cider and wildflower honey. We matured this mead in oak barrels for about a year to mellow the flavor and contribute to the body.

The Northville Winery has been in business for over 20 years. It was started by Vern Bodker and his son Chris as a small supplemental income to the cider business. It was sold to Cheryl and Rob Nelson, and Diane and Mel Jones along with the Cider Mill in 1991. Robb and Carina Nelson took over running the winery 5 years ago and have been expanding the winery ever since. The winery produces several alcoholic wines, hard ciders flavors and one non-alcoholic, sparkling cider. The Northville Winery has been inside the Northville Cider Mill since its creation. As years passed his friends and family had the opportunity to taste the cider Jason was producing. Robinettes Apple Haus- Jim Robinette built a cider mill on our farm in 1971. We make fresh cider starting the Tuesday after Labor Day, and continue through April or early May. We use a blend of apples which changes as the season progresses, always striving for a balance of sweet and tart. You may watch cider being made throughout the fall, and about once a week in the winter. We treat our cider with a UV Light process to prevent possible bacterial contamination. We feel it produces a better cider than a heat pasteurization process does. We use no preservatives and no additives, so our cider is 100 percent pure apple! Our cider is also the starting point for our apple-based wines and hard ciders.  The UV Light treatment removes almost all natural yeasts from cider, providing an excellent starting point for anyone wishing to make their own apple wine or hard cider. We make several extra batches of cider in early November every year to freeze for sale in the summer.  Our cider season never ends!

The complexity of this blend will keep you sipping and trying to determine which variety makes this cider so darn good. Smackintosh-  McIntosh, Rhode Island Greening, and Northern Spy. Everything's better with a little Smack. This crowd pleaser is sweet and tart with full apple flavor. Sweetheart- Jonathan, Rhode Island Greening, and Red Delicious. Perfect cider for those in love... with cider at least. Slightly sweet and crisply tart--is that citrus in the nose?
Ida Gold- IdaRed, Rhode Island Greening, and Yellow Delicious. Pale gold shining in the sun. Is there anything better on the beach than cider? Pomona- goddess of the orchard. Pommeau is made by blending apple brandy and sweet cider then aging the mixture in oak barrels. Our brandy is distilled from our hard cider. Sweet and delicious, Pomaona is 17% alcohol.

THE CIDERS:

RedStreak is a proper English style draft cider. With its hazy lemon hue, scent of ripe apples and just a touch of oak, RedStreak has a crisp, tart finish that pairs perfectly with your favorite mature cheddar. First discovered in Herefordshire in the 1630s, the Redstreak bittersharp apple produced a cider so delicious it was deemed to be ‘fit for kings.’  Lapinette- unfiltered French Norman style cidre brut, Lapinette is fermented with saison yeast, is aged in French Cabernet Franc wine barrels and, like RedStreak before it, will be available only as a draft selection across the Chicago area.  The Percheron- In Normandy, France, cider has been made on the farm for over a thousand years. Apples were carried from orchard to barn by cart, drawn by a big, grey horse--a percheron. The apples were milled and pressed into juice through straw--driven by that same horse--then fermented with wild yeast in used wine barrels. The resulting farm cider, or cidre fermier, was rustic and complex, with notes of both the farm and barrel. Percheron Cidre Fermier is dedicated to the big, beautiful horse of Normandy. Like its French cousin, it bears the unmistakable scent of the farm, a strong body, and a gentle finish. 
Sidra de Nava is a tart, lemony Spanish-style sidra. The Asturias region produces 80% of the Sidra in Spain, and the Asturian summer is something to behold. The skies are clear and blue, the cafés full, and Sidra reigns supreme. Every café and Sidrería pours it – either 'thrown' from a bottle or pipa (pitcher) held high overhead or straight from the kupela (barrel). Afternoon drinking under those blue skies leads to long nights of music, dancing and of course, more Sidra. The climax of the summer is the Festival de la Sidra in the village of Nava, held each July. Virtue's Sidra de Nava is more tart than the dry ciders of England or funky cidre from France. Its lemony nose and bracingly tart dry finish are a happy intersection of cider, dry white wine and fresh squeezed lemonade. It's the most refreshing of drinks, pure sunshine in a glass.
The Mitten- When the leaves fall, there’s a chill in the air and the evening greedily takes hours from daylight, we stand strong and embrace the wintertime. It’s a time of rich foods, roaring fires and our favorite sweaters. Drinks change from refreshing to intense and satisfying. The Mitten is a Winter cider, a blend of last season's best, aged in bourbon barrels, with the new season’s fresh pressed apple juice. Straight cider, aged for 3 seasons, finds notes of vanilla, caramel and charred American oak, balanced with the best of the orchard, over-ripe apples and their sweet, tart, earthy juice. Many barrels are filled, but only a small portion, the very smoothest, will find their way into The Mitten. We love wintertime, especially when we have The Mitten to keep us warm and happy through the long, cold night.  Ledbury is an old market town in Herefordshire, England – full of historic inns and pubs, and a beautiful, half-timber Market House dating back to 1617. It sits between the rivers Wye and Severn, surrounded by orchards growing cider apples. My first visit to Ledbury was as a brewer, to buy English hops in the autumn of 2007. I returned in 2011, a newly minted Cider-maker, to meet Tom Oliver. Tom makes traditional cider and perry in Ocle Pynchard, Herefordshire, to my palate among the very best. The Ledbury Cider is an English-style medium cider – not too dry, not too sweet. A blend of old world bittersweet apples and new world heirloom varieties are fermented with native yeast, adding a bit of farminess to the ripe apple nose. 
Cidre Nouveau- celebrates these sensations of fall and the promise of an autumn harvest ready to be fulfilled. Released each November, this young, dry, and vibrant sparkling cider is a worthy addition to the harvest treasures that will line your holiday table.
